New Orleans is the home of the Cutting Edge, where music, great songs and talented musicians are essential to our cultural identity.

The Music Business Institute will produce the 24th Cutting Edge CE Conference (formerly Cutting Edge Music Business Conference) August 25 – 27 at the InterContinental Hotel, New Orleans

Cutting Edge offers an intimate environment where musicians, entertainment professionals and attorneys can mingle with speakers asking and answering questions in a relaxed atmosphere. Panel topics and speakers will focus on “Hot” topics and “Current” trends in today’s music and entertainment industry.


Cutting Edge Entertainment Law Seminar – Will explore the artistry of “The Games We Play” Strategies, Tactics and Important Deal Points. Panel sessions on entertainment litigation, copyrights, trademarks and transactional law, Film and Interactive sessions on indie filmmaking and Reality TV will link the Entertainment Law and the Film and Interactive Workshop.

Music Business Sessions – Cutting Edge will host recording executives, music licensing experts, producers, booking agents, managers, music supervisors and publishers. Look for panels on getting your music in films, management, all-in-one producers, songwriting, using radio to brand your music, getting a million fans in social media, booking and touring. Film and Interactive Workshop – Panels, Indie Filmmaking, Meetups, and the “CellFone Film Challenge” all entries must be filmed on a cell phone. Cutting Edge’s Educators Forum will address digital media training.

NewWorks Artist Showcase and NOLA Downtown Music and Arts Festival – Located in New Orleans newest entertainment district and fastest growing neighborhood the New Orleans Warehouse District. Cutting Edge Guitar Summit will again highlight the event. Walk and enjoy music, food, art, bowling, and pop-up shopping along Fulton and Diamond Street. Cutting Edge ends the summer in New Orleans fashion with a Street Party.


Cutting Edge’s Roots Music Gathering will ‘get back to its roots’ with a yearlong exploration into the history and legacy of Jazz, Blues, Country and Rhythm and Blues. From the inspiration drawn from Gospel to its impact on Bluegrass and Louisiana Swamp Pop to the venues and dance halls across the south, e.g. Chitlin’ Circuit venues like the New Orleans’ Dew Drop Inn, Austin’s Historic Victory Grill, West Baton Rouge’s Byrd’s Satellite Lounge and how the Louisiana Hayride, a radio show from Shreveport Louisiana helped shape Country music.

February 7 – 9: Cutting Edge and the Ultimate Louisiana Party Festival Tour– Mardi Gras in Treme – Celebrating Mardi Gras on North Claiborne Avenue with our annual Tribute to Antoinette and Ernie K-Doe. 30 bands from New Orleans and across the U S will descend on 1520 North Claiborne Avenue next to the world famous Mother in Law Lounge at ground zero of Mardi Gras on Claiborne Avenue for the Ultimate Louisiana Party.

March 11 – 13: Cutting Edge and the Ultimate Louisiana Party Festival Tour – SXSW – at the Austin’s Historic Victory Grill

March: New Orleans Original Jazz District Past, Present and Future – In the 400 block of South Rampart Street in Downtown New Orleans stands four National Historic Registry landmarks of early jazz history including Little Gem Saloon, and the Eagle Saloon. New projects like the renovation of Knights of Pythias’ building and its rooftop Jazz Garden remind us that our cultural history has never been far away. The question remains, What is Next? Historians, local landowners with the assistance of the Louisiana State Museum Jazz Collection will help explore the past, the present and the future of New Orleans Original Jazz District.

March – May: Cutting Edge CE Listening Room @ Little Gem Saloon – Cutting Edge Listening Room returns for the inaugural of its acclaimed six-week presenting series, a forum for artists to deliver their NewWorks in an atmosphere where their artistry is more important than beer sales.
